FAQ

Is what I say confidential?

Yes, clients share vulnerable and personal aspects of their life with me, and as their counsellor it is important to me to uphold confidentiality both in respect for the client and also in accordance with the CCPA code of Ethics.

Are there exceptions to confidentiality?

Yes! There are some times when confidentiality needs to be broken and is mandated by the code of ethics. These primarily revolve around the potential or active harm of yourself or another, or in the rare case that the courts subpoena my records.

As I am “pre-licensed” I attend supervision with a licensed supervisor. I may share details of our conversations there. My supervisor is bound by the same confidentiality as I am, and when sharing details I do not share identifying details.

I will review these with you in the first session and encourage you to ask any questions you have.

What can I expect in the consultation?

The consultation is a quick meet and greet. I will ask a few questions about your goals, your previous history with therapy, and provide some information about myself and my approach.

In the consultation you can ask any questions you have on your mind, this is a time for you to ensure you feel safe starting therapy together.

What can I expect in the first session?

In the first session or two I gather information to form a full picture of you. This involves questions around health, family, and daily routine. There is never any judgement of the answers of these questions. Getting a full picture allows me to have a holistic view of you and integrate more effective treatment.

Can I use my benefits?

As a “pre-licensed” counsellor some insurance companies will allow you to use my credentials or my supervisors credentials to reimburse you. However, not all insurance companies will accept a non-registered counsellor, it is best to check with your insurance first if it is necessary for you.

What is the cost of therapy?

Sessions are currently $110 which is my pre licensed rate. There are often some options for sliding scale to enable more people to avail of the care they need. If you need this, please ask during your consultation, I am more than happy to offer what I have available.

Can I do my sessions online or in person?

I offer sessions both online and in person. See my Hours & Location page

What are the expectations of online sessions?

For sessions online it is expected that you will be in a relatively quiet location where you have privacy. This means there are no other people in the room you are in and you can close the door.

It is also expected that you will be safe, this means not driving or operating any sort of vehicle.

What happens if I need to reschedule or cancel

24+ hours in advance: log in to your Jane account where you booked the appointment, if it is more than 24 hours in advance it will allow you to reschedule or cancel without issue.

Less than 24 hours: As my cancellation policy is 24 hours, sessions cancelled or rescheduled within that period will be charged at full session rate.

Emergencies: Life happens, on a discretionary basis the fee may be waived or reduced.
